UNIVERSITY OF EAST LONDON - CITEWelcome from the Dean
Welcome to the School of Computing, Information Technology and Engineering. The School brings together the major areas of Computing (including computer games, multimedia technology, music technology and information security, software engineering) and business information systems along with civil engineering, electrical engineering, product design, geographical information systems and land surveying. The synergy between engineering and computing provides a dynamism that ensures our programmes are challenging, relevant, highly practical and focused on the skills required in today's workplace.
With over 3500 students studying worldwide with the School offers a wealth of knowledge, innovation and experience that will provide you with the opportunity to enhance your knowledge and understanding of your chosen study area.
We have dedicated laboratory facilities for both engineering and computing housed in new, purpose-built labs at our Docklands Campus. These provide an ideal ienvironment for students to test theories and master practical skills, It also provides an opportunity for you to gain industry standard qualifications in related computing areas.

School of Computing, Information Technology and Engineering
Civil Engineering FacilitiesCivil engineering, hydraulics and related subjects are served by laboratories in Knowledge Dock, Dockland Campus.
The main teaching laboratory has a large flume for open channel work, with pumped supply and fundamental flow measurement by weighing tank. Other equipment includes a perspex model surge tower with computer data logging, an irrigation channel with laser doppler anemometer, a smaller flume and a number of water benches for standard experiments carried out by students to gain a good practical understanding of these subjects.
The adjoining laboratory houses the hydrology apparatus for simulation of rainfall and highway runoff, an Ahlborn tank for open channel and scour investigations, a spillway model, settling column and sedimentation tank. A number of individual laboratory based projects are carried out each year, enabling students to plan and carry out their own research work.
The equipment and work in these laboratories is supervised by experienced staff who are continuing a strong tradition in this subject area at the University of East London, which has resulted in a number of research publications and books in recent years.
Computer Games and Multimedia TechnologyThe Computer Games and Multimedia Technology laboratory provides a dedicated resource to computing students specialising in the engineering and production of multimedia or computer games products.
The laboratory has full complement of dual processor computers which run dedicated multimedia and computer games software. Typical software available in this laboratory would be MAYA and Virtools for computer games animation and graphics design; Macromedia Director and Adobe Premier for digital video construction; macromedia flash, dreamweaver, and coldfusion for web product construction; macromedia fireworks and adobe photoshop for digital graphics manipulation; macromedia authorware for developing teaching and learning material and on line books; and serif software for the quick and easy construction of user prototypes for all aspects of digital project construction.
In addition to the software a number of state of the art digital still and video cameras, scanners, and music development suites are available to students and staff. Computer games platforms, consoles and associated games are provided within a secure area. The resources are soon to be further strengthened by the dedication of six computers to research and development in video construction; computer games construction; and sound construction.
