THE CITY LAW SCHOOLWorld-class legal education in the heart of London
The City Law School is one of London's major law schools, offering an impressive range of academic and professional programmes.
We are the first law school in London to educate students and practitioners at all stages of legal education. Our distinguished history charts a long commitment to new ideas and innovation in the study and practice of law.
If you choose to study law at The City Law School, you will have access to the full range of legal education and training, ranging from undergraduate degrees (including opportunities to study abroad), through conversion programmes for non-lawyers, to the vocational stage training required to become a barrister or solicitor. We also aim to provide the best support we can for our students to ensure that your experience with us is as good as it can be. In particular we place great emphasis on careers support to help you find the right job for you after you have qualified. Please use the links to the left to find out more about our programmes and what we can offer you.
Although it may feel as though London is an expensive place to live as a student, in fact there are so many opportunities for part-time work that it can be easier to manage by comparison with other parts of the UK. There are also lots of interesting places to go which are free or offer student rates, and plenty of cheap places to eat.
The academic programmes offered by The City Law School are located close to the legal heart of London and within walking distance of the Royal Courts of Justice, the Inns of Court and the Central Criminal Court. City is not a new university: founded in 1894, it was granted a Royal Charter in 1966. It has long standing links with the City of London and with the professions.Around 35 full and part-time staff teach on the academic programmes which together cater for some 550 undergraduate and postgraduate students. Around 140 students a year register for the three-year undergraduate programme leading to an LLB (Hons) degree in Law or the unique LLB (Hons) degree in Law and Property Valuation which is taught jointly with the Cass Business School. For graduates, there are 180 full-time places on The City Law School's prestigious CPE/Graduate Diploma in Law course. We also offer 40 places each year to well qualified non-law graduates to take a two year graduate entry LLB (Hons) degree. These programmes are recognised by the Bar Council and the Law Society of England and Wales.
The School also offers a distinctive portfolio of taught LLM programmes, including an LLM in International Commercial Law, with specialisation options in Competition Law, Maritime Law and Banking and Finance Law, and an LLM in Criminal Litigation. New LLM degrees in Media Law and in Housing and Land Law, which are specialist programmes aimed at practitioners.
A small number of students are also registered each year to pursue research leading to a higher degree in law. Supervision is available for study towards an LLM by research, or an MPhil or PhD degree.
