CITY UNIVERISTY LONDON - SCHOOL OF COMMUNITY AND HEALTH SCIENCES

City University London’s School of Community and Health Sciences is dedicated to the education and development of health and community-based professionals. We offer courses at undergraduate level which lead to professionally recognised qualifications and excellent career prospects within the NHS and beyond. Our success and that of our students is demonstrated by a graduate employment record that is one of the best in the country. Student’s benefit from academic and theoretical knowledge, combined with practical skills gained from placement experience at some of London and the South East’s leading healthcare providers.

Facilities
The School offers excellent academic tuition with superb in-house skills and simulation facilities, combined with challenging placements in one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world. Our students benefit from a level and variety of practical experience that simply cannot be matched and which effectively prepares them for a rewarding and challenging career.

Courses
Nursing – nurses work at the forefront of healthcare delivery and make a genuine impact on people’s lives. After successfully completing either our BSc Nursing degree or Diploma course not only will you receive a professional qualification, but you’ll also be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and ready to start work in the UK or internationally. You could choose to work in the NHS or an independent or private hospital. You could be a health visitor, school nurse, prison nurse, occupational health nurse or choose to work as a bank (temporary) nurse. You choose which branch of nursing you want to study (adult, child or mental health).

Midwifery – midwifes play a vital role in promoting and maintaining health, facilitating normal childbirth and helping women make informed choices about their care during all stages of pregnancy and birth. Once you successfully complete the BSc in Midwifery you’ll have a professionally recognised qualification meaning you can practise right away in the UK or internationally. There are numerous occupational options, hospital-based or in the community, for example in women’s homes, local clinics and GP surgeries. Speech and Language Therapy – if you’re interested in the nature of human communication and want to work with people with communication impairments, our BSc in Speech and Language Therapy offers a challenging, fast-paced and rewarding vocation. Once you graduate from the course you can apply for registration with the Health Professions Council, allowing you to practise as a therapist in the NHS.

Optometry – optometry involves the study of visual defects and the ways in which these can be corrected or relieved. Once you succesfully complete our BSc in Optometry you must work under supervision for approximately one year and you can then register as an optometrist with the General Optical Council.

Radiography – radiographers are key members of a healthcare team. Our courses combine academic study with the development of practical skills, allowing you to develop the best of your intellectual and caring capabilities in the medical field. We offer two undergraduate courses: BSc Radiography (Radiotherapy and Oncology) and BSc Radiography (Diagnostic Imaging). Both courses lead to the BSc degree and to recognition by the professional body, the Society of Radiographers, London. This professional recognition is essential for registration with the Health Professions Council, which is required in order to gain a licence to practise radiography in the NHS.
