Work Experience with a Law Degree at Nottingham Trent
Posted on Fri, 13 April 2007 12:44:46
All undergraduates studying for a law degree at Nottingham Trent
University have the opportunity to gain invaluable work experience with
a law firm or legal organisation.
At the end of the first year, students can apply to enrol on the
Certificate or Diploma in Professional Practice. The Certificate
enables students to undertake mini work placements during vacations,
and the Diploma offers the opportunity to undertake a paid work
placement in their third year.
Recent figures show that Nottingham Law School, at Nottingham Trent University, is number one in
the UK out of all British universities for the number of law students
taking year-long work placements (HESA student record, 2004-2005).
Martin Norman is currently on placement with Actons Solicitors in Nottingham.
“An average day can include anything from legal work like drafting
letters to clients, writing instructions to counsel, attending court,
interviewing clients, making trial bundles and researching points of
law, to administrative work like sorting the post and photocopying. A
year’s experience working in a law firm is something that not many law
graduates can offer, so I believe this will give me an advantage when
applying for training contracts. I would definitely recommend the
placement option.
