Biosciences: making a difference to the way we live
From the air we breathe, to the food we eat and the environment in which we live, rapid advances in technology mean that there has never been a more exciting time to study for a degree in biosciences.
In short, Bioscience is all around us and there is a wealth of opportunity for well-qualified graduates to apply their skills and knowledge to the challenges of the modern world. The School of Biosciences is one of The University of Nottingham’s most successful schools and is recognised as a leading international centre for teaching and research with a constant focus on modern developments, processes and techniques.
A wide range of courses at the School of Biosciences explore diverse issues such as:-
• The environment and its protection
• The growth, development and importance of plants and animals and their impact on the world we live in
• Effective conservation of the modern natural world
• The production and supply of safe, high quality food for a growing global population
• Nutrition and its importance in the development, treatment and prevention of disease; from an individual basis through to world-wide levels
Course structures are flexible, meaning that you can tailor-make your own course to suit your individual interests by selecting specific areas of study outside of the core subjects. In addition, all three-year courses are offered with an optional extra studies year, based within a variety of partner institutions across Europe.
A degree from the School of Biosciences will open up a wealth of opportunity, whether you see yourself as a pioneer of the future, or simply want the assurance of a top-class degree.
Previous graduates have taken up careers in a wide range of fields, including business management and marketing; environmental consultancy; product development; production management; computer science; publishing and teaching; academic and industrial research; agricultural supply; animal products and care; pharmaceutical development; nutritional advice and medical research.
...And besides the prestigious reputation held by the University of Nottingham, you’ll benefit from being situated on the doorstep of one of the UK’s most cosmopolitan cities and will belong to a vibrant student community offering a vast choice of sporting and cultural activities, societies and club nights.
So if you thought Biosciences wasn’t for you, think again... we truly believe we can offer something for everyone and, in return, you’ll get the chance to make a real difference.
