2nd Year
BA (Hons) Events Management

A Level’s studied:     Art
English Literature
H istory
Media Studies (AS level)

Why Events?
“I was very undecided about what course I wanted to do, I fleeted from Nursing to English Literature to German and a lot more in between but after speaking to friends of friends who were in the Events industry I knew instantly it was for me.”

“I still wanted to further my studies and do a degree but I was not interested in doing a traditional degree that did not give me industry specific experience and I was adamant that if I was going to commit to a 3 or 4 years course it had to be enjoyable.   I also wanted to meet lots of new people, work on a placement in my chosen industry and not be restricted to jobs in one category. Events Management offers the opportunity to learn lots of business skills but also work in many different event industries from music to sport to wedding planning. I liked the freedom the course offered and the possibilities that it opens up.”

“ I am now planning my placement year – looking for a company to take me on for the 40 weeks paid industrial experience I have had some offers but I am waiting to hear back from Toyota my firm favourite

2nd Year
BA (Hons) Tourism Management

A Level’s studied:
Economics and Business Studies
Maths
Geography (AS Level)
Sociology (AS Level)

Why Tourism?

“Although I studied very traditional subjects at A-level I was always very interested in Tourism and Travel. I wanted to study business elements whilst studying Tourism so this course ticked all the boxes. I liked the idea of the management part of the Tourism course as it makes it more diverse, and I knew that the course had a good reputation, so I wanted to be part of that.  At the end of the course there is a wide range of jobs that I could go into, anything from a Tour Operator Product Manager to a Tourism Officer.

I enjoy the variety of topics that we study from Environmental Studies to Financial Reporting as it keeps it interesting and enjoyable. The A-levels I studied have provided me with a good background into issues studied in tourism such as Economics, Environmental studies and Services Marketing. I am particularly looking forward to my placement year as this will give me the opportunity to gain experience in the industry and make contacts for my future career. At the moment I am  pursuing a placement with the RNLI, so fingers crossed!”
