Get on The Fast Track to Accountancy with AAT

The AAT’s Accounting Qualification consists of three levels of NVQ/SVQs (Foundation/Intermediate/Technician). The content is practical and work relevant, giving students the knowledge and confidence to fulfil a range of finance and accountancy roles.

The qualification is open-access regardless of previous academic background and work experience and can provide a stepping-stone to chartered and certified accountancy.

For individuals who are currently studying their GCSEs or A-levels and don’t want to go to university the AAT can provide a fast-track to chartered accountancy. AAT students can qualify in just four years, a year earlier than those with a university degree. Successful AAT students also have the advantage of solid work experience, without the debt a university education entails.

Julia Poulter
Julia Poulter (19), a Trainee Business Advisor at PKF, is currently studying the Technician stage of the AAT’s Accountancy Qualification. Julia started AAT in 2001 after completing her A-levels.

“The AAT provides me with a very practical introduction to accounting and means that I am earning a salary while I am studying and gaining work experience too. The course also provides me with a stepping-stone to chartered accountancy – I could even qualify a year earlier than someone who has been to university.”

Riaz Rahiman
Riaz Rahiman (18) wanted a career in accounting but after completing his GCSEs he decided that: “full-time study was not for me.”

“The AAT Accounting Qualification is a very good one to have, it shows that despite my young age I am a professional and have a high standard of accounting knowledge. It has helped me to understand what our accountant requires and why.”

Riaz is Accounts Manager for Court Construction (Bristol) Ltd. He is currently studying the Intermediate stage at the City of Bristol College.

“I chose to train with the AAT as it is a well respected qualification which can lead to chartered accountancy. Training with the AAT enables me to gain valuable work-experience, and as I am working I have financial independence too.”

Charlene Chan
Charlene Chan (18) started studying the AAT’s Accounting Qualification straight after completing her GCSEs.

“Even though I decided to do AAT when I was just 15 years old I believe it was the right decision for me. AAT is a recognised qualification in the world of finance, it gives employers a good idea of what the holder is capable.”

Charlene is an Accounts Assistant at Baker Tilly Chartered Accountants in Manchester and is currently studying the Technician stage.

“By doing the AAT qualification I’ve gained a better understanding of why we prepare financial statements, who needs them and what they actually show.”
