Calling all Young People Who Want to Break into Telly

BBC presenters back TV talent scheme

Applications are now open for a unique and inspirational scheme that gives young people a first break into the world of television. Television and Young People (TVYP) is an annual scheme for 18-21 year olds which provides the opportunity to work with the creative teams behind some of the top TV shows, from Big Brother to Footballers’ Wives.

camera-2.jpgReggie Yates (presenter on BBC 2’s ‘Smile’ and one of the final contestants in Comic Relief does Fame Academy) and Fearne Cotton (Top of the Pops) support the scheme. Both Reggie and Fearne know the right ingredients to get into television:

Reggie (21) says: “I started in the television business when I was 8 years old but I’m still as enthusiastic about it today as I was then.  I still get a buzz out of what I do and love every day.  It’s important to have your goals and dreams in life and to go for them.  Be honest about what you can do and don’t be afraid to show how you feel”.

Fearne agrees: “My tip for success is to find out what you are really passionate about and concentrate on that area. For me, this is the best job in the world and some days I can forget I’m getting paid to have so much fun.”

Television and Young People is open to 18-21year olds with a passion to work in the television industry.  The 150 lucky delegates selected will attend five days of masterclasses, workshops, career surgeries and social events at the Edinburgh Television Festival between 25-29 August 2005.  Other than travel to and from Edinburgh, all expenses will be covered. Go to www.tvyp.co.uk to find out more about getting that dream job in television.
