AAT Apprenticeship Scheme... BPP-Student Profile
Name: Paul Overall
Age: 19
Job Title: Junior Audit
Company: Dickinsons

What stage are you at?
I am waiting for the results of my two Intermediate central assessments.
How did you hear about the Scheme?
BPP contacted my training manager.
How has the Apprenticeship helped you?
The personal tutor visits helped to clarify a lot of things as it puts what you have to complete into perspective and are also great as reassurance, knowing that you have that support if you need it. It is good to have targets set, rather than being overloaded with information. The courses, material and the support was all great!
How has the AAT training helped you in your day to day job?
Brought a lot of things to light and clarified a lot of processes, especially unit 5. I understand better now, why my job involves certain things.
Has it made a difference to your career or job prospects?
Next year I will be given more responsibility when I qualify. It helped to clarify a lot of things that are happening in the firm. What are you planning to do now and in future? I want to become a chartered accountant – then take it as it comes, maybe go into commerce.
What would you say to anyone considering doing AAT?
It is definitely worth considering, if you are doing it with a firm because you are putting the skills you learn into day-to-day practice. Don’t get stressed out thinking there is a lot to do: skills tests are spread nicely throughout the year and you get targets set, which breaks it down into easy study goals.
What is the Apprenticeship scheme?
Free training for AAT students is available via
the Apprenticeship scheme, which is aimed at
encouraging young people to obtain a first
class qualification whilst developing key skills
relevant to their job. BPP Professional
Education can access this government funding
and as a result can offer employers free AAT
courses if their students:
• are aged 16-24 years old
• are in full time employment within a finance related function
• do not hold a degree
