Blood, guts, and gore... Nursing is much more
If you mention nursing as a career to someone, they normally respond with, ‘ oh, I couldn’t do that, too much blood and gore, makes my stomach turn’ when in reality, nursing is so much more than trying to combat your fear of blood

A career in nursing, is one of the most rewarding, challenging, and varied careers you will find. And it’s time that people knew the facts about nursing!
Myth:
“Nursing is for young white females”
Fact:
Age, sex and ethnicity have no bearing on how good a nurse you’ll make or your promotion prospects.
Myth:
Nursing is not for the ambitious”
Fact:
There are many varied career paths in nursing, every one of which can lead to high-powered, well paid jobs driving change in exciting and hugely respected professions. Skills learned in nursing can be transferred to many other professional and business contexts.
Myth:
Nursing is not for the squeamish”
Fact:
Nursing is tough and let’s be honest; it does help if you don’t faint at the sight of blood! But there are some branches of nursing, including mental health, that require skills of a very different nature to those needed in an Accident and Emergency ward!
Train and work as a nurse in the London area and study at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College, where we can give you the opportunity to become the best you can be. Our pre-registration nursing programmes lead to the following academic qualification and registration with the NMC
• Diploma of Higher Education in Nursing
• BSc (hons) Nursing
With all three of these qualifications, you can study Adult, Child or Mental health Nursing. But which one should you choose and what does each area really involve?
ADULT
What makes adult nursing such a challenge is the sheer diversity of situations you will have to respond to. You will be working with people who have acute and long-term illness or people with injuries. Some will be elderly, others younger.
CHILD
Children’s nursing can take you from intensive care of a new-born baby with breathing problems to looking after a six foot tall adolescent with a broken leg.
MENTAL HEALTH
Everyone has episodes of depression, anger, stress and fear throughout their lives, but when do we need care and professional help? As a mental health nurse you will deal with people of all ages and from a wide range of backgrounds.
