Hospitality - Is it for you?
Posted on Wed, 14 November 2007 12:21:26 (393 Reads)
As one of the UK's fastest growing industries, hospitality offers unrivalled diversity and opportunity for hard working young people just like you! Just think about all of the places that people like to spend their leisure time these days. Theme parks like Alton Towers, family friendly pubs, coffee shops, restaurants, major sporting events, five star hotels - the list goes on and on. And all these places offer a range of exciting jobs and quick career progression for people with the right skills and attitude.

Changing for the better
...The industry is changing. Just think, a few years ago it would have been strange to walk into a pub, sit in a non-smoking area and watch a bunch of kids rolling around in a multi-coloured sea of over size ping pong balls - but not today.
This is just one example, but it's these new concepts which make the industry so accessible to more and more people who want to start a great career in a vibrant environment.
Is it for you?
To succeed in hospitality you've got to be prepared to work hard - this is not an industry where anyone gets away with coasting. You've got to be flexible and energetic, cool when all around is hectic and dedicated to helping people have a good time.
In return you'll have a job where no two days are the same, where you get to meet different people all the time and where fast progression to a management position is common among skilled and ambitious people.
Don't get left behind - let HCTC help you take the smart route to a great career!
It pays to get qualified!
If you're considering a career in the hospitality industry, or have already got a bit of experience, doing an Hospitality Apprenticeship could be the perfect step for you to take.
1. What are Hospitality Apprenticeships all about?
Designed and delivered by industry experts, these work-based training programmes and are about getting trained, gaining experience, getting qualified,
getting paid a normal wage and getting ahead!
There are two types of Apprenticeship - an Apprenticeship and an Advanced Apprenticeship which are each made up of four parts.2. Who can do them?
Young people aged between 16 and 24.
3. How do I choose which one to do?
As a general guide, an Apprenticeship is for a person who is just starting off, or who has been in the industry for a while but who is not yet in a
supervisory position. An Advanced Apprenticeship focuses more on advanced craft and supervisory skills.
Your local HCTC Recruitment Adviser will discuss all of your options with you and your employer before you start.4. How long do they take?
As a general guide, an Apprenticeship takes up to 12 months and an Advanced Apprenticeship takes between 16 and 24 months, although kitchen
based qualifications can take longer.
5. How much do they cost?
If you satisfy the eligibility criteria, they don't cost you or your employer a penny. They're fully funded by the government.6. Do I have to go to college?
No, HCTC's Apprenticeships are work-based. This means that you do the bulk of the qualification in your normal workplace as you go about your daily routine.
7. So, I'll just have a regular job?
Yes, you'll do a normal job and get paid a normal wage. The only difference will be that you'll be working towards your qualification as you do it.
8. And who does my actual training?
Your employer trains you and we provide supplementary training, guidance, support and assessment. One to one sessions with our training specialists will
be scheduled as and when you need them.
9. Can you find me a job?
Yes, we have close links with a wide range of employers nationwide. We encourage you to be on the lookout for your perfect job too, using industry press,
