The Joys of Constructing London!
Posted on Wed, 18 April 2007 16:08:12Construction must be the biggest industry in London at the moment, in the short walk from Moorgate to St Paul’s I must have walked past at least a dozen construction sites, and bumped into as many familiar faces. By the time I reach my own site I’m used to the loud repetitive sounds that fly out from these half built structures and am looking forward to another busy day.
London’s changing, everyday brings a new addition to the sky line that will last for decades, I look at each one with fascination, whilst others may see just a building somewhere to house the multiplying numbers of London’s workers. I see the result of a combined effort from a wide range of professions, trades and skills. In a day as a construction manager I get to interact with a large number of these people varying from Engineers to Tree Surgeons, Lawyers to Carpenters and Architects to Archaeologists and appreciate that they all have to work together to get a building project off the ground.Getting everyone to work together efficiently and in a safe and coordinated manor is the most challenging part of construction, but also the most enjoyable. And whilst in other industries it may be difficult to see the result of people’s hard work, I’m glad that in mine, the result is standing 10 storey’s tall, and is so bloody obvious.
