National Tyres Apprenticeship Scheme

I first heard about National Tyres Apprenticeship Scheme when l
enquired about a 2 day a week work placement for my college course.
I started my placement in August 2005 working with Mike, Andy, Steve and Andy (Barney). When l started on my first day l had to just watch what everyone was doing and where everything went etc. then on the second day l was taught to use the machines and tools. I found it quite easy and progressed quickly.
Then came the time when my current Manager, Stuart, took over the
centre. He believed l could do the job and enquired for me about the
apprenticeship.
Once my college course ended in June 2006 l had to wait to hear back
about a permanent position at National. I was interviewed in early July
and later that day l got a phone call telling me l had been accepted to
join the company Apprenticeship Scheme
I went away for my first course (introduction and tyres) the following
week and l really enjoyed it. Everyone at the Gloucester training
centre got on straight away. I wasn’t back at the branch long before l
had to go on another course, I didn’t mind though.
I am really enjoying my apprenticeship so far, and working at Newton
Abbot branch. Everyone works together as a team and we are all good
friends.
Stuart, Darren, Andy and Jason are all helping me, if l struggle they help me and show me what to do and are constantly training me. I don’t feel like an apprentice, l feel like one of the team.
