Clyde Marine was founded in 1986. With over 700 Officer Trainees currently in the training process we are the Country’s largest Marine Training Organisation with approximately 44% of the UK’s annual Officer Trainee intake being recruited for our 53 client Companies. We offer the chance of training in Deck (Navigation), Engineering or Electro-technical specialisations leading to excellent qualifications, levels of responsibility and management unrivalled in most other careers and career opportunities in the Maritime Industry.
Each Officer Trainee is sponsored throughout their training with all training costs met by the Sponsoring Company. In addition, all Trainees receive subsistence payments throughout the training period, both at college and at sea. Therefore it is not necessary to have to delve into your own pockets to pay accommodation and living costs - a huge plus compared with other College or University courses.
Depending on your chosen route the courses last between 3 and 4 years at Nautical Colleges or Universities throughout in the UK. On successful completion of the course each Trainee will have gained an HND, Foundation Degree, Degree or Postgraduate Qualifications, in their chosen discipline along with the professional qualification of a Certificate of Competency. This certificate allows the individual to sail as a Junior Officer on any merchant ship.
Whichever path you choose, with further hard work and professional exams you could command your own ship or be Chief Engineer, anywhere in the world and also aim for a senior position ashore in the wider maritime industry. In many cases you will also have gained a wealth of experience travelling around the world and working in a dynamic and exciting industry where two days are rarely the same.
