Careers with KPMG
If you are destined for greater things, then KPMG in the UK is the ideal place to kick-start your business career. You don’t have to be a graduate to work at KPMG. There are also excellent opportunities for A-level trainees. We look for very bright people with an interest in business who want to learn and then apply that learning, helping to solve clients’ problems.
A-Level Trainee Programmes
As an A-level trainee you can gain a professional qualification with KPMG. At the same time as studying for a highly respected business qualification, you’ll gain a broad range of professional experience while working with a variety of people both within KPMG and with our clients. Opportunities in Tax and Audit are available to A-level trainees.
Who are KPMG?
KPMG is one of the UK’s leading firms of business advisers providing audit, tax and advisory services to many of the largest international corporations in industry and commerce. KPMG member firms employ nearly 100,000 people in 750 offices in 150 countries around the world. Within the UK firm we have 23 offices handling some 10,000 clients from governments to retail outlets to charities.
Tough Exams, Exceptional Support
Joining our A-level training programme is no easy option. Far from being the end of your studying days, you will be working towards the same professional qualifications that our graduates take. It’s tough but you’ll receive a level of support, which we believe, is difficult to match elsewhere. We’ll make sure you know what is happening and who to turn to every step of the way.
Our Entry Requirements
You must have at least 24 UCAS points (300 UCAS Tariff points) and have gained at least a grade B at GCSE Maths (grade A for Audit). Although impressive A-level results are essential, you’ll also need a strong personality, plenty of enthusiasm, considerable drive and a genuine interest in business.

Case Study: Thomas Kipping
Corporate Tax Compliance
Why did you apply to join KPMG?
I applied to KPMG after deciding that university was not for me. I wanted a career in the financial sector and KPMG offer a very attractive programme for those who want to both work and study towards a professional qualification at the same time.
What has been your greatest experience at KPMG?
My experiences at KPMG have been quite diverse, I have not only enjoyed my time in the office and at Tax Business School, but I’ve also been involved in the recruitment process. I never thought my picture would appear in the press!
What has been your best day?
I would say my best day at KPMG was late last year when I had finally submitted all of my clients tax computations for the year. Needless to say we celebrated.
And the worst?
I can’t really identify a ‘worst day’ at KPMG, although there are times where the hours get longer and the work continues to build up, but that’s all part of the challenge. However, the support infrastructure in place means there are always people available to either give advice or lend a hand.
Can you give me an example of a recent project you have worked on and what your role was?
My department is currently very busy dealing with December year end tax returns, I have been given roles on a number of clients and in general this involves preparing tax computations, talking to clients and basically being available for any situation that may arise.
Can you tell me about your career progression since joining the firm?
I have been at the firm for just over a year now and have developed relationships with fellow members of client service teams, with clients and with my department as a whole. I have taken two exams and attend Tax Business School bi-monthly, which has allowed my technical ability to improve.
What is your career ambition?
At the moment I am just concentrating on getting qualified with KPMG. In the future I can see myself progressing within the firm, and perhaps seconding into other departments. One of the great things about KPMG is the wide variety of departments they offer, an awful lot of people move around the firm, taking up different roles and broadening their knowledge as they do so.
Do you have any advice for school leavers?
Don’t be intimated, sure it can be daunting at first but everyone else is or has been in the same boat as you. Everybody is really approachable and genuinely keen to help so ask lots of questions.
