Did you know that the Merchant Navy is the term used for the commercial shipping industry that carries goods and passengers around the world?

The following is an extract from an interview with a recently qualified trainee with the general manager of the ship safe training group:

Why did you decide to go to sea?
My enthusiasm stemmed from talking to one of the SSTG staff who was attending a careers exhibition. I never realised what is involved in keeping a large ship at sea, and they made it sound really interesting.

When did you first consider a career at sea and why?
I first started to consider it in my 4th year of secondary school. I was trying to decide what I wanted to do and I read about this course in a college prospectus.
