Submitted by daniel on Mon, 11/12/2006 - 00:00
Michelle McPhee, Business Development Officer
I joined Middlesbrough Council/ HBS Training Centre in 2000 and completed my NVQ Level 2 and 3 in Business Administration. I have progressed considerably and am now employed as a Business Development Officer within the Regeneration Department. The Business Support Team’s role is to make the area as business friendly as possible, for new and growing local businesses and those relocating here. The Council is sponsoring me to undertake a part-time Business Management degree.
Ruth Sloan, Legal & Democratic Services
Following a work experience placement in Middlesbrough Council’s Legal and Democratic Services, I was appointed as House Possessions Officer and Legal Assistant. I work in the common law section of the department dealing with a variety of legal work including housing, contracts, licences, education, environment, anti-social behaviour, injunctions, nuisance etc. No day is the same. The Council has helped me gain lots of varied experience, developing my skills and helping my career progression. I am currently studying law at Northumbria University with a view to long term success in the legal profession.
Matthew Allinson, Data Assistant
On leaving school I completed my Foundation Modern Apprenticeship with Middlesbrough Council gaining a NVQ Level 2 in Administration. My current role is a Data Assistant within the Performance & Policy Department and involves: assisting in maintaining a database of all properties within Middlesbrough; helping to provide training and support to users of the corporate mapping software and working on developing the Middlesbrough Council website.
Saadia Azam, Executive Support Officer
I started as a Trainee in Middlesbrough Council / HBS Training Centre. My first work placement was within the Executive Office where I was successful in gaining a permanent position. I currently provide administrative support to the Mayor of Middlesbrough, Chief Executive and Director of Human Resources. I have gained valuable experience throughout my time here and hope to continue my development.
Brenda Green, Warden Service Co-Ordinator
I joined Middlesbrough Council in 1979 as a relief Resident Warden. I have progressed within the Care Link Service working as Resident Warden, Control Operator, Senior Care Link Officer and currently as a Warden Service Co-ordinator. I develop and manage the Care Link Service, which provides a 24-hour communication and support service primarily for elderly, disabled and vulnerable people.
With the support of Middlesbrough Council I am studying for a professional Certificate in Management Studies
