Whats Social Care all About?
Submitted by daniel on Mon, 07/11/2005 - 00:00
What’s it all about?
Social Care is a high energy, fun, varied and challenging career that will send you home with a buzz! You will be helping people to make choices, maintain their independence and overcome difficulties. Dependant on what you’re interested in you could be working with a wide range of people from children to older people or people with physical disabilities or learning difficulties.
Social Care – out there!
Social Care takes place in lots of different locations, e.g. day centres, residential homes, in people’s own homes, out in the community and even on the streets. You could be travelling around or assigned to one place, dependant on what area of work you are interested in.
Who are you?
Do you enjoy meeting new people, helping them to overcome difficulties, making difficult decisions, have a sense of humour, bags of energy, enjoy working flexibly as part of a team and have a sense of responsibility / accountability? If so, you could be well suited to this type of work. These are just some of the qualities that you will have if you want to become a social care worker – there are many more so don’t worry if you don’t relate to all of the qualities described above!
What’s on in Notts?
Nottingham is a young, fun, lively city where you’ll find plenty to do! From cinema’s to the National Ice Arena, bowling, concerts, leisure centres, National Water Sports Centre, great shopping and of course a fabulous nightlife life whatever your age! Getting around is easy with the new tram and brilliant bus services.
What suits you?
Some young people choose to go to university to become a qualified Social Worker. Others go to college to get an NVQ in Social Care before getting a job. But some people prefer on-the-job training though apprenticeships schemes which are currently under development at Nottingham City Council. There will be many opportunities throughout your career to progress and do even more challenging and rewarding work as you become more skilled and qualified.
Up front n real!
A social care career is rewarding on many levels and isn’t your average 9-5 way of earning a living. The work can be demanding and stressful but you’ll be rewarded through a sense of achievement and making a positive difference to someone’s life. You will also get on going training and get to work with a great and diverse bunch of people.
And you get paid for all that too!!!
