Study Podiatry at the University of Plymouth
Submitted by daniel on Wed, 17/03/2010 - 11:04
There are many different healthcare professions that aim to keep the people of an ever changing population fit and healthy. Podiatrists are healthcare professionals that provide preventative care, diagnosis and treatment of patients with foot and lower limb injuries and abnormalities in order to improve mobility.
Podiatrists work with a wide range of people; both in terms of patients and other healthcare professionals, and can work in a number of different environments, which makes for an exciting and varied career. With foot, ankle and lower limb problems being so widespread, the need for podiatric care is increasing, and the ways in which these problems are treated is always progressing, providing interesting challenges for podiatric teams.
E
mployment rates are also excellent, currently of those who want a job 85% of students are employed within four months of graduation and 100% by eight to nine months (source: http://www.nhscareers.nhs.uk), and with salaries starting at just over £20,000 for a qualified podiatrist after graduation it provides financial as well as intrinsic rewards.
'The podiatry course at Plymouth was challenging and very interesting. I am now running a healthy and expanding private practice and also work as a consultant for a premier football club in the North.'
Steve Lyons – Graduate
