Profile: The City of Leicester

Leicester is a surprisingly compact and well equipped city – it rivals any other in the country. Because of its size, everything is close by. Once you have a feel of the place you will have the best time of your life, and wonder what you worried about!

With over two hundred bars in Leicester city centre, there’s certainly plenty of choice. The city centre is jammed with places to go but for a change of scenery, you can also have a great night out on the Queen’s Road and in Leicester’s West End. Popular student clubs are Liquid and Envy who provide an eclectic mix of everything a student might want to hear! If you’re more into your alternative music, try Mosh. Leicester’s many clubs are popular for big nights out, so whether you want the latest dance music, independent artists, or prefer to dress up in a seventies wig and flares Leicester can offer you a great night out!

Leicester University Student Union is great for live music, with bands such as We are Scientists and Kula Shaker gracing the stage. The Charlotte is another popular venue for music and is also a widely acclaimed nightclub in Leicester. Bands like The Holloways are lined up to play The Charlotte but in general, you will find more obscure bands on the play list.

Zanzibar is a chain nightclub hosting regular students nights for both Leicester and De Montford universities. You can expect a cheesy night from Zanzibar but always a fun one! The Fan Club is another top tip for Leicester, featuring weekly 60’s, 80’s and 90’s nights there’s something to cater for all tastes! If RnB is your thing, try popular nightclub Life.

The scenic canal front in Leicester is great for chilled out drinks, in particular The Soar Point and The Quay are worth a visit.

Leicester is where all points of the country meet, where cultures mix and mingle. Situated in the heart of England, Leicester is a truly first-class city for students to live and study in.

Leicester has many famous offspring, including Gary Lineker, David Attenborough and indie bands Kasabian and The Young Knives – what more could you ask for!
