Submitted by daniel on Mon, 04/07/2005 - 00:00
Right now the entertainment software industry is booming and there is a growing demand for skilled software engineers. Sheffield Hallam has developed an exciting new course, BSc (Honours) Software Development (Games) in order to meet these needs and provide talented software developers for the future.
Students develop software engineering and project management skills, also creative and practical skills required for building playable software. They focus on the production and business skills required to publish successful entertainment and games titles. The course is designed to enhance broad career opportunities as students develop the necessary skills for a career as a programmer, software development engineer or project manager.
One of the exciting features about the Games course is that key teaching staff are actively supported by industry partners, particularly Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE). They provide the university with specialist games development equipment and technical support for the associated MSc Entertainment Software Development course.
Bob Steele, Principle Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University has high expectations for the new course,
"Software development for games is fun. It is also deadly serious. This new course will excite and inspire you, and will enable you to develop your talent to succeed"
Sheffield is the home of many companies operating in the games and media sectors and the university has good working relationships with these companies as well as SCEE/PlayStation.
The gaming industry has a multi-billion pound turnover and includes areas such as computer games, interactive TV and mobile communication devices. Sheffield Hallam University predict exciting opportunities for graduates of this course.
If you're thinking of a career in computing, then consider this, Sheffield Hallam is internationally renowned for innovative courses, and our excellent links with industry mean you are in prime position for employment on completion of your course!
