Waterways Operative

The Role

Waterways operatives make sure that rivers and canals are clean, safe and accessible for people in boats, or those who often use the banks and towpaths. Some operatives look after the bridges, locks, tunnels and mileposts. Other duties may consist of keeping the area clean, such as removing litter and observing and maintaining paths. Important roles of a waterway operative is to control water levels, report accidents that may have happened in the canal and repair damaged equipment. Waterway Operatives work normal day time hours, and their job is an outdoor role, in all weather conditions.
